Understanding The Faith

To define Faith may seem a loaded question because Faith is not something that is visible or tangible and it actually a broad subject to discuss however we can define it based on its operation according to the scriptures.

Faith can be said to be a complete trust or confidence in a particular person or doctrine. It is a strong belief, Faith is based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.

Faith and why is it so important?

Faith is everything in the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ. Everything about Christianity is faith, walking with God is by faith – 2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight. The stronger your faith the better results you record in life. The triumph of life is directly proportional to our faith. Not our prayer’s lifestyle. No! Not our fasting’s lifestyle. No! Not our commitment to church programs or activities, etc. It is our Faith’s lifestyle

Make faith your lifestyle today and forever you will live a life of amazing Grace filled with testimonies of wonderful acts of God on daily basis without running after any pastor or who for help – Habakkuk 2:4 –Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Romans 1:17 – For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith.

Galatians 2:20 – I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 3:11 – But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, the just shall live by faith.

Hebrews 10:38 – Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

We have heard a lot of teaching about how to receive from God or how to please God. And so many lists were mentioned of what and things to do so as to please God or receive from God. Anyways I do not know where they get that from. But one thing I am sure of is that according to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and according to the New Testament gospel it is not true.

We must keep the faith

Listen to me: We do not have a list that can make us please God or receive from Him. We only have one thing that Jesus had mentioned and taught when He was on the earth and His disciples taught it deeper after his ascension to heavens at the resurrection. It is only faith. I mean FAITH. That is why we must keep the faith –

2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Revelation 14:12- Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Why you have to keep faith is because the enemy will attack your faith before they can attack you. Until they overcome your faith they cannot overcome you – that was why Apostle John said – 1 John 5:4 (KJV) – For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

See the account of Jesus warning apostle Peter to be careful so that Satan will not overcome his faith – Luke 22:31-32 (KJV) – And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

That was one of the reasons why Jesus warned us to be careful how we hear because hearing empowers or weakens our Faith – Mark 4:24 (KJV) – And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

Romans 10:14-17 (KJV) – How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they are sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias said, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

We must guide our Faith jealously

We must guide our Faith jealously because it is everything to us in the kingdom of Christ where we have been translated to – Colossians 1:13-15 (KJV) – Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature.

We must protect our Faith – 2 Timothy 2:18 – Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

Never let anyone overthrow your faith. Or pull your faith down.

That is your major asset for greatness, success, breakthrough, and fulfillment. Without running after anyone in the name of a pastor or prophet or whatever. Because faith makes all things happen – Mark 9:23 (KJV) – Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Mark 11:22-24 (KJV) – And Jesus answering said unto them, have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said. Therefore I say unto you, what things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

John 14:12-14 (KJV) – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Can you see now that it is not fasting, not another thing but faith that makes things happen. 1 John 5:4 (KJV) – For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

Is it bad to fast or pray? No! Fasting is good but it does not change or affect anything on God. It affects us only. Fasting doesn’t move God, it moves man. People who preach fasting that it moves God or make God hear our Prayers can only preach it from the Old Testament which is also out of context. And that was when things have not been made better.

That was under the old covenant. Under the gospel of Christ fasting does not affect God but it helps man. We must learn about the difference between the old life before Christ came and the new life after He came and resurrected.

Hebrews 10:19-20 – Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, {boldness: or, liberty}. By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; {consecrated: or, new made}

Fasting and Faith

Matthew 17:14-21 (KJV) – And when they have come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for oft-times he falls into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil, and he departed out of him: and the child was cured of that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, why could not we cast him out?

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting.

A situation was brought to the disciples of Jesus in the passage we have just read and they could not heal the child. But when Jesus got to the scene. He healed the child. Then came a question from the disciples to Jesus Christ that “why couldn’t we cast out that demon of the little child?” Then Jesus answered them this way. Please follow me carefully because I want to discredit this scripture to fasting but faith.

In the first place, Jesus called them faithless people in verse 17. Yes, they were faithless. But after resurrection, they were no more faithless why? The spirit of faith came into them after the day of Pentecost. As long as Jesus was with them they will actually remain faithless. Simply because he has not finished the work. I mean he has not resurrected. A believer in Christ cannot be called faithless because he has faith. Without faith, he can never be saved –

Ephesians 2:5-9. God will never relate to him. Because he deals with people through a measure of faith. – Romans 12:3 (KJV)  For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according to as God hath dealt with every man the measure of faith.

Anyone that have the spirit of God cannot be faithless

1 Corinthians 12:9 –To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

2 Corinthians 4:13 – We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Was it the reason why they could not cast out the demon? Yes. It was the problem of unbelieve – see the verse again here… Matthew 17:19-20 (KJV) – Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, why could not we cast him out?

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Jesus answered them that it is their unbelieve that did not make them to be able to work that miracle or healing. So the problem is not fasting and Prayer. The problem why they were not able to do the healing was unbelief. Faith problem. Jesus trying to help them how they can get rid of unbelieve said in verse 21 that they will need to fast and pray are you with me?

Let us read it again from verse 18-21 now- Matthew 17:18-21 (KJV) – And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, why could not we cast him out?

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.Howbeit this kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting.

Can you see it now? That the suggestion to pray and fast will not make them work miracle but will help them get rid of unbelieve. But today we have the word of faith. That can destroy unbelieve and give way for faith. In the disciples’ time, there was no writing that can help them generate faith. Because every scripture was about the Law of Moses from Genesis to Malachi.

Glory to Jesus for a better lifestyle we have received through the gospel of Salvation and thanks to God for the apostles who are the forerunners of faith that have compiled writings of Faith that can help us develop faith. Today we have enough writings of faith that can help us. Romans 10:8 – But what said it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Romans 10:17 – So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

1 Timothy 4:6 – If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

Hence this message was not to tell you fast or don’t fast. I fast as a person but not to make me please God to manipulate God to do something for me, No! I fast when it is necessary so as to help my faith and my Spirit man to stay strong and alive to God. I fast and I pray with understanding, not like a dummy.

That concludes the fact that our fasting does not affect God, it affects us. Our prayer does not move God, it moves our desires to us if it has the ingredient of faith in it. If there is anything that can move God it is only the Faith. When He sees the faith that is of Christ, He acts and He is pleased – Hebrews 11:6.

When Jesus saw their faith, He moved despite He never knew them before then, they were not even among His disciples. Mark 2:5 – When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

Luke 5:20 – And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

The account of His acts of wonders to people that demonstrated Faith includes a woman that was tagged a dog by Jesus. Dog? Yes! But she returned with a miracle why? She was able to display her faith in Christ. –

Matthew 15:26-28 (KJV) – But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Let God see your faith always it will make you a star in the kingdom of God and here on earth. It will place you in high places of life without stress. Faith is all that you need. – John 11:40 (KJV) – Jesus said unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou would believe, thou should see the glory of God?

It will always answer to every one according to his or her faith. Do not depend on another person’s faith. Not even your pastors’ faith. – Matthew 9:29-30 (KJV) – Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straightly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

Faith and Prayer

What is prayer? – It is the communication of our Faith to God and it is a two-way communication where you can speak to him and also gear from him. The hearing is what makes our Faith stronger and perform much more exploit. There is what is called the communication of our faith and the profession of our faith, Apostle Paul; said we must hold it very strongly –

Philemon 1:6 (KJV) – That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 10:23 (KJV) – Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised 😉

What we do in a prayer that is full of faith called a prayer of faith is to communicate our Faith. That is to say or speak the faith – Mark 11:23 – For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said. Whatever you say it what you see, whatever you talk is what you take and whatever you speak is what you pick, communicate your faith.

James 5:15 (KJV) – And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

I have heard people saying that … a prayerful Christian is a powerful Christian… No, No, No! That is not true at all. Jesus did not teach that neither any of His Apostles. What was taught by them was faith. It is the faith that is expressed in the prayer that causes the exploit of prayer. The exploit of prayer is still called the exploit of faith. Prayer of faith communicates faith to God through Jesus Christ.

If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.

The same thing is applicable to fasting and all other things people think or tagged to be wonder contact or things to do to experience wonders. The reason a lot of Christians are frustrated with Prayer, giving, fasting, using mantle, drink water or oil called anointed with no result. They don’t please God to act, or cause God to do anything it is faith, if that be then the scripture is broken and the scripture cannot be broken –

John 10:34-35 (KJV) – Jesus answered them, is it not written in your law, I said, ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

The Truth will never Change

Even if we do not agree, it does not change the truth – 2 Timothy 2:13 (KJV) – If we believe not, yet he abides faithful: he cannot deny himself. This is the truth.

Faith is the link between man and God through Jesus Christ. Without faith no man can access God. A man you have not accessed is a man you cannot enjoy any blessing from – Hebrews 11:6 (BBE) – And without faith it is not possible to be well-pleasing to him, for it is necessary for anyone who comes to God to have the belief that God is, and that he is a rewarder of all those who make a serious search for him.

A lot of people think what they do like giving, praying, fasting, etc. Is what makes them to please God? No! That is not true. You cannot bribe God. That is a bribery system. The only thing that makes a man to be pleasing to God I mean to be acceptable to God is Faith. God is already well please with Jesus – Mathew 17:5 – While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

When you have that Christ in you which is a product of faith God is pleased with you. – Hebrews 11:6 – But without faith it is impossible to please him: for him that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I am not saying giving is not good or praying or fasting I mean if you have not engaged them with faith it is a waste. Therefore they are not your breakthrough point but faith. If you sincerely believe you will give – Luke 6:48. There is reward for giving. Giving is one of the ways to prosperity and fulfilment in life. Life is giving. Giving is Love. God is Love and He gives. Giving is God.

If you sincerely believe you will pray. Prayer is expressing your faith. And if you sincerely believe you may bot fast. Because fasting supplies Faith alone… Mathew 17:20-21

Faith is the wonder system not any other thing – Mark 2:3-5 (KJV) – And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

Take note of that verse 5. The word of God says when Jesus saw their faith….. He did not see the effort to bring the guys into the house where he was preaching but their faith. Listen to me. Two things are involved in that process. The first was that they believe Jesus will heal the guy. Then their faith made them to pave way to get there to Jesus despite the difficulties they went through. The effort is motivates by faith. The real o next there is faith.

What happened after that he saw their faith… the guy was healed…- Mark 2:11-12 (KJV) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, we never saw it on this fashion.

God cannot see your faith and not respond to you. It is your faith that determines your relationship with God. Let God see your faith! Matthew 9:2 – And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

Luke 5:20 – And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

Faith is a link through which we access salvation from God through the Lord and our salvation Jesus Christ – By faith we are saved- Ephesians 2:5-9 (BBE) – Even when we were dead through our sins, gave us life together with Christ (by grace you have salvation), So that we came back from death with him, and are seated with him in the heavens, in Christ Jesus;

That in the time to come he might make clear the full wealth of his grace in his mercy to us in Christ Jesus: Because by grace you have salvation through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is given by God: Not by works, so that no man may take glory to himself.

Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) –That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

That looks so simple pastor. By just confessing the faith in Jesus Christ one is saved and have eternal life? The answer is yes! That is the Gospel of Christ.

Apostle Paul said – Philippians 3:9 (KJV) – And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Faith is received at salvation. You don’t preach how to have or believe to a man that has accepted Jesus Christ. Because if h had not believed he would not have received Jesus Christ – 1 Peter 1:9 (KJV) – Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

You don’t tell a man that is a believer or saved that he does not have faith. That is not true. A lot of people have been told the reason their problem has not gone is because they do not have faith or their faith is little. What? That is not true. Everyone who have come to salvation in Christ Jesus have faith. The challenge why it is not producing result lies in the usage of the faith.

The Implication of our Faith

This teaching implies that!

  • Prayer is not the requirement to access liberty or the blessings of the finished work of Christ. However there is no way to engage faith without “Prayer” – Prayer means speaking or saying or expressing your faith.  Mk 11:23.
  • It is not in drinking or robbing anything on yourself. Not in tying cloth on your waste, not in drinking or eating communion it is not even in sowing sacrificial money. No! Jesus never asked any to do that. – Col 2:16-22, James 5:14-17, Col 2:16

This bring water, padlock, Cutlass, undies, etc. These are burdens. The name of Jesus is enough. Here is the problem with them, they take away the faith of people from God to those objects and then you are not different from an idolater.

Apostle Paul warns against that- 1 John 5:19-21 (KJV) – And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

And do not forget that these have never been required or found in the doctrine of Christ for worship or for receiving from him that which he has finished for us already. If it is not a doctrine of Life in Christ Jesus then they are man’s doctrines or tradition and we were warned against it – 1 Peter 1:18-19 – Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers, But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:,

Mark 7:13 – Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do you.

Col 2:8 – Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ

1. It is not in a Pastor or the place of worship it is in you. A lot of people believe it is one pastor or a particular mountain or church that is working the miracle. It is not completely true. Yes God is using that pastor to connect you to the miracle but your receiving is all about your faith.

If you have the faith you will not even need to run after anyone and still have whatever you desire. Instead of running here and there after people it is advisable you seat down and develop your God-given Faith.

Mark 11:23 – For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said.

Even Jesus could not work wonders with so many people because they have no faith – John 6:5-6 – And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folks, and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Meaning without Faith no one will receive from God it does not matter even if it is an angel that prayed for you.

Fill yourself with the word of Faith – Romans 10:8 – But what said it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.- Colossians 3:16 (KJV)

John 15:7 – If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Acts 17:24, Mark 16:16-17, John 14:12

2. It is not a problem of little faith. It is a problem of not using the faith or exercising the faith to work – In Mathew 17:20 Jesus said little faith is enough. Do not let anyone tell you things are not working out for you because you have little faith. You actually do not need big faith to solve problems. If little faith can move the mountain then such little faith can do wonders in your life too.

Mathew 17:20 – And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

The little faith is enough. But you can empower yourself in the faith daily and become stronger in the application of your faith. You can live with active faith and not a lacking faith – 1 Thessalonians 3:10 – Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith.

3. It does not require seed sowing. It requires faith that can be expressed against the situation – No father requests a thing from his child before giving him something he or she asked for. And Jesus said in Mathew 7:7-11, Luke 11:9-13 clearly that if we been wicked parents know how to give good things to our children how much more our heavenly father that he will not give to us all that good things we can ask for and freely.

Romans 8:32 – He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?, 1 Corinthians 2:12 – Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Ephesians 1:16-21
