The Process of Spiritual Growth.

Apostle Paul said in 2 Peter 3: 18 that “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen”.

Growth is a must for us to become mature. But for a healthy spiritual growth one must be deep in the word of God. There is no other way to grow than to study. Prayer will not make you to grow and not fasting will make you grow…speaking in tongue is the way to grow neither your giving or worships make you grow but only studying.

Apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:15 that we should Study to shew ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

He further said that the word of God is given to make us grow to mature man. It is given to us primarily to make us become a perfect man – 2 Timothy 3:15-16 – And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

While speaking to the believers in Christ Apostle Peter said we must grow and the way to grow is to drink the milk of the word of God – 1 Peter 2:2 – As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby:

Jesus encouraged us to study so that we will not live in error – Mathew 22: 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

No wonder He gave men gifts and these gifts are for the edification of the saints so as to bring them up to maturity of faith and to the fullness of the person of Christ as a perfect man and this will be done through the teaching of the word of God… because the way to bring people to maturity and unity of faith is by teaching the word of Christ.. Romans 10:17.

But if we are truly growing in the word of God we must daily unlearn and re-Learn because we grow in understanding daily as we study. No wonder Apostle Paul said – 1 Corinthians 13:9-12 – For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. {done away: Gr. vanish away}

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. {thought: or, reasoned} {put away: Gr. vanish away}

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

We keep unlearning and learning daily if we are going to become what God has intended for us to become. The reason He gave us pastors, apostles and others in the fivefold ministry is to be able to grow into the stature of Christ and experience the fullness of him. Ephesians 4:11-14 – And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: {in: or, into} {stature: or, age}

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

If you look at that verse 13-14 very carefully you will discovered that we have a lot of doctrines in our churches or preached and enforced by the many preachers that are not of Christ. Some of them are set to lure people to get into their finances while some are just to have control over the mind of the people of God.

Of no doubt so many worship doctrines we observe today in our worship time or worship auditoriums are areas where we need to unlearn and re-learn so as to have right knowledge according to the gospel of the grace that we have received through Christ Jesus.

Of no doubt. It is evident that Jesus came to change the system of worship – John 4:20-24 – Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Can you see that the hour has come and now is the hour by the death and the resurrection of Jesus where God is looking for true worshippers. Who are they? Those who worships in the spirit am din the truth… Meaning not tied to a particular place as it was in the Old Testament time. Those who are not sacrificing doves or goats for forgiveness of sin, Those who are not bound by laws of Moses, those who are not bound by Passover feast…and son. He was talking about those who worship with the understanding of Christ. Who have the mind of Christ – 1 Corinthians 2:16

There are differs doctrine out there today that are not fashioned after Christ but which are cunningly framed to satisfy man’s ego and financial gain. Believers must be very careful. To be careful. Means to learn. It means to very knowledgeable in the doctrines of Christ. This can only be by studying the word of Christ.

Paul said in Hebrews 13:9 – Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Be not carried away with such teachings… Ephesians 4: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Run from such teachings that can take you away from the liberty that you have in Christ as revealed to you in the gospel of Christ which saved you into slavery again – Colossians 2:4 – And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

Colossians 2:6-8 – As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  –

Verse 16 says – Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days:

If you do not know that there are people out there because of their low knowledge in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ towards the believers according to the gospel of the New Testament that we have received have perverted and still perverting the word of God. That is why I w=am writing this to you to be careful of how you hear but study to be approved.

Apostle Paul said “we are not one among them that perverts the word of God but making men to grow in truth as we have known”  – 2 Cor 2:17 – For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

We have men who are teaching Christ they do not know in person. And through their preaching you will see that clearly as they preach people to do again things Christ has already done for us, at times they preach us to do some things that Christ has already cancelled and replaced with his own suffering, death and resurrection. At times they make people through their preaching to feel sad, afraid and threatened whereas the gospel supposed to be a good news and with liberty… The gospel supposed to be a feel good message that has power to convert the sinners and making the righteous stand stronger in Christ Jesus.

So many messages around today misrepresent God and Christ. At times t=such messages presents God as a killer, a wicked father or God, it shows at times that God is not merciful etc… But if you are learned enough about the person of Christ you will be spared from such gospel. Not everyone preaching knows what he is preaching and not every gospel of Christ – see what Apostle Paul said about such preachers – Romans 2:20 – And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

Then He warned us to refuse such teaching – Galatians 1:6-7 – I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

When you don’t know enough of the gospel of Christ.

You become a fool and get results like a fool

Gal 3:1 – O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

Hebrews 5:12- For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. {is skillful: Gr. hath no experience}

Luke 24:25-27 – Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. – ,

Jesus is the word of God that makes wise – 1 Corinthians 1: 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Only the word of God makes wise – 2 Tim 3:15 – And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Your err.

James said we must do everything possible not to live in error as regards the gospel of Christ. James 1:16 – Do not err, my beloved brethren.

When you do not know the word of God, Jesus said you will be in error and it will be impossible for you to know the power of God. – Matt 22: 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

Because the word of God is the power of God – 1 Corinthians 1: 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

That is why today believers live in error. They sing erroneous songs, they say erroneous prayers and engage in erroneous worship. They gets frustrated with not result because error can never bring right results.

Paul told the Church of Ephesus that there problem was rooted in no knowledge of Christ and that is the same problem facing a lot of believers today – Ephesians 4:20 – But ye have not so learned Christ;

The will of God in Christ Jesus for us is to grow in the knowledge of Him – 1 Tim 2:3-4 – For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

You will not be able to separate traditions from instructions.

Tradition kills the ability to grow in the truth, We must be able to separate tradition from our daily worship and then we can aloe our spirit man to grow, Tradition is one of the problem of the believers today why we are stuck in erroneous worship etc.  – Mark 7:13 – Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. Mathew 15:6

You will be enslaved by cunning men in the name of pastor or bishop etc.

Ephesians 4: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

You will be serving a God you do not know

Jesus said – we should not worship a God we do not know – John 4:22 – Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

It is possible to serve and follow a God you do not know see an experience of Apostle Paul here – Acts 17: 23 – For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
