Real Liberty in Christ Jesus – Part Three

Message preached on the Sunday 16th of June, 2019.

Text: Galatians 5:1- 18

In the context of this teaching, the word real means tangible it implies visible.

When I say Liberty I mean freedom! I mean Rest – Hebrews 4:3 – For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. Verse 9-10 says “There remained, therefore, a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Our work is to labor to enter into this rest and a lot of us have done that already because we have believed on the son of God who died for the sin of the whole world and hath redeemed us to God through His own blood. Hallelujah. Hebrews 4:3 – For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

The labor is to believe. The believe that comes from the hearing of the word of Christ Jesus – Romans 10:8-10, 17

It means Empowered, the word liberty means legal right. When I say liberty that Christ brought to us believers on Him, I am talking of the grace of God that we stand in – Rom 5:1-2.

I mean the spirit we have received from God through Jesus Christ – 2 Corinthians 5:5 (KJV) – Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

Galatians 4:6 (KJV) – And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

1 John 3:24 – And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

2 Corinthians 3:17 – Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

That is the Spirit of freedom, rest, breakthrough, peace and joy. That is the spirit of liberty – 2 Corinthians 3:17.

When I mean real liberty, I am talking about access to a spirit of grace, power, access to legal right or son’s right, it means a life of freedom that is from the finished work of Christ Jesus

Galatians 5:13 (Kjv) – For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Galatians 5:13 (BBE)  Because you, believers, were marked out to be free; only do not make use of your free condition to give the flesh its chance, but through love be servants one to another.

1 Peter 2:16 (Kjv) – As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

1 Peter 2:16 (BBE) – As those who are free, not using your free position as a cover for wrongdoing, but living as the servants of God;

I have written those two versions of the verses quoted above so that you can get the message very clearly.

Listen to me…

We all as a believer are not going to be free but are already free in Christ Jesus from all forms oppression. Either from the law or of men or of the devil and from sin! Hallelujah!

There are four major liberty or freedom or rest that we have in Christ Jesus

We are free from the Law, we are free from men the mediators, we are free from Satan and powers and finally, we are free from Sin. Glory to Jesus Christ.

Free from the oppression of the law…..

Thou shall not… Thou shall not …  now we have the grace to do what pleases God through His Spirit – Gal 5:18. (You cannot be under law and grace together No! No! You can’t serve two masters – John 1:14 & 17 – And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:4 – For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes.

Romans 8:14 – For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Mathew 22:36-40 (40) – 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like, unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Luke 16:16 – The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.

All the scriptures read above pointed to the same factor truth that the law ended at a particular time. And that was at the coming of Jesus. Glory to Him. From John the Baptist the law and the prophets ended and they hung on the love which is God through Jesus – 1 John 4:8 – He who has no love has no knowledge of God because God is love.

The law was about Jesus. It points to the operation of Jesus that is to be revealed – When Jesus came he took over from the law and he fulfilled the law – John 1:45 (BBE) Philip came across Nathanael and said to him, we have made a discovery! It is he of whom Moses, in the law, and the prophets were writing, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Jesus said this — Matthew 5:17-18 (KJV) – Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

When Jesus said it is finished he meant among many other things that the law is fulfilled. The Law is ended. The children of God are free from all forms of the Law. And now to be led and controlled and governed by the Holy Spirit of God. Glory to Jesus.

Romans 10:1-5 (KJV) – Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayed to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For them being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Moses described the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

The law actually is the book of the Old Testament. All the prophets and the leaders of the Old Testament time with the Prophets and the kings all build on the foundation of Moses.

No wonder anyone who goes against the Law of Moses is killed without plea – Hebrews 10:28-29 (KJV) – He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

That is how serious and strong the Law of Moses was at that time.

The book of the law

The Old Testament is the book of the law. That was why Jesus said in John 10:34-35 (KJV) – Jesus answered them, is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

John 15:25 (BBE) – This comes about so that the writing in their law may be made true, their hate for me was without cause.

All Jesus was trying to say in the scriptures above is that the Old Testament is not life but I am the life and I have come to give life (New Testament it Covenant) to abolish the Old and set up the New. Because the Old spoke about what I will do under the New. John 5:39-40 (KJV) – Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Hebrews 8:13 – In that, he said, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayed and waxes old is ready to vanish away.

Luke 24:27, 44 – And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. And he said unto them, these are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

The Old Testament or Covenant is by the resurrection of Jesus Christ fulfilled hallelujah!

Paul said – Romans 3:19 (KJV) – Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Romans 3:19 (BBE) – Now, we have knowledge that what the law says is for those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and all men may be judged by God:

Listen to people of God. We are free from guilt! We are free from the Judgement of God! Glory to Jesus. Not anymore! We have been forgiven. Sin has no dominion over us any longer. We are saved! Even if we have done what is wrong we have the right to walk up to the father. I mean our Father just as a son that we are and tell it to him and receive forgiveness and that ends it there! This is the gospel of His grace hallelujah!

Remember while we were yet a sinner He died for us – Rom 8:5, Eph 2:5-6, 1 John 2:1-2 says “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our’s only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him if we keep his commandments”.

From that scripture, it is obvious that sin is not our nature in Christ Jesus but if peradventure someone commits sin, the truth is that he can obtain forgiveness and move on nothing changing in his relationship from the Father to him. So sin can never separate a believer from God? Yes! If it could not hinder God to reach out to us, even when we were dead in the sin and He saved us. It is too late for sin to break a relationship the God has towards us.

I mean that deep love of God to us all – John 3:16 (BBE) says “For God had such love for the world that he gave his only Son so that whoever has faith in him may not come to destruction but have eternal life”.

Don’t be listening to a teaching on the book of the law? It will not help you to enjoy the liberty you have in Christ Jesus. See this scripture about the book of the law John 1:16-17 (KJV) – And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Meaning Moses is the Law but Jesus is the grace – 2 Corinthians 3:12-18 (KJV) – Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remained the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. Nevertheless, when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Where Joshua in chapter one and verse eight talked of the book of the law shall not depart from your mouth in it you shall meditate and have success etc. it is no more a message for the believers in Christ Jesus. Because Jesus ended that book! Glory to Jesus. When that is being preached you had better run away because that is no more applicable to believers in Christ Jesus.

The major shift at the resurrection of Christ

There was a major shift at the resurrection of Christ that turned that verse as well as other many verses around for better as written in the New Testament. The book of the Law has not been preached by Jesus and not any of His disciples who taught us gospel taught that. The book of the law has been replaced with the word of God – Col 3:16….. The word of Life – John 3 63… The word of grace – Acts 20:32… The word of faith – Rom 10:8 etc.

When you see Jesus you see the funeral of the law… or better said the end of the law… Rom 10:1-4. But today believers have suspended in between the law and the grace that is in-between Moses and Jesus. That is bondage, my friend.

Think of this…. whatever makes you to be able to go church while menstruating as a woman or what makes you not to wash your feet and hands before coming into the church to worship or give wave offering, sin offering and other offerings they gave as an act of worship in the time of the Law is a pointer to the truth that things have changed by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Glory to Him

Whatever makes you not to kill a goat for the forgiveness of sin but believe on Christ to forgive you and so many other Law systems we can mention but to list a few. Are the evidence that the Law was truly ended by Jesus Christ?  And that should make you see the reality in this teaching that truly the law is dead. So why are you still being bound with some of the Law?

Pay ten percent or whatever, Do this and so on that were not practiced and preached by Jesus or his disciples. That is a New Testament day bondage. It is a sign that you are still under the law and not the Spirit. Gal 5:18 – But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Be careful because this is a sign that you are not a child of God – Rom 8:14 – And all those who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Old Testament people do not know God they only know men and follow them by law – John 7:22-23 (KJV) – Moses, therefore, gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers 😉 and ye on the Sabbath day circumcise a man. If a man on the Sabbath day receive circumcision, that the Law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the Sabbath day?

(Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath – Sabbath is no more a day it is a person. – Mark 2:27-28 (Kjv) – And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.  Luke 6:3-6, Matt 12:6-8 – But I say to you that a greater thing than the Temple is here.

7 But if these words had been in your minds, my desire is for mercy and not for offerings, and you would not have been judging those who have done no wrong. 8 For the Son of man is lord of the Sabbath.

The message of the Old Testament people

Moses (The Law – John 1:17) was the message of the Old Testament people.

John 9:28-29 (Kjv) – Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples. We know that God spoke unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

Acts 15:21 (Kjv) – For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath day.

Paul at Antioch: See His message after the reading of Moses in the Synagogue. Acts 13:15-16 (KJV) – And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. Then Paul stood up and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.

Of course, Moses was like a god at the time of the Law. And once you go against Him or His Law you are liable to be killed – Hebrews 10:28 – A man who has gone against the law of Moses is put to death without pity on the word of two or three witnesses:

Moses is read in all the synagogues in the time of the Law. All they do in the time of the Law was to read the Law of Moses – 2 Corinthians 3:14-18 –  13 And are not like Moses, who put a veil on his face so that the children of Israel might not see clearly to the end of the present order of things: 14 But their minds were made hard: for to this very day at the reading of the old agreement the same veil is still un-lifted; though it is taken away in Christ.

15 But to this day, at the reading of the Law of Moses, a veil is over their heart. 16 But when it is turned to the Lord, the veil will be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there the heart is free. 18 But we all, with unveiled face giving back as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord who is the Spirit.

That was the reason why they killed Jesus because every of his teaching and acts was not all according to Moses’ Law. The same problem was faced by the disciples after Jesus left. They were persecuted for the doctrine of Christ they upheld.

The Law has been fulfilled

We are free from the law do not entangle yourself with the bondage of the law.

The Law has been fulfilled! Remember no man can fulfill the demands of the Law (Moses) – Matt 5:17-18 / Luke 24:27, 44 (KJV) – And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Jesus told them to stop reading the book of the Law (the Old Testament) that in it there is no Life. John 5:39-40 – That was to say reading from the book of the can no service the life that we have in Christ Jesus we must walk by the law of the spirit – Rom 8:1-2 – For this cause those who are in Christ Jesus will not be judged as sinners. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Law is difficult to keep that was while Jesus replaced it with the law of Life in Christ Jesus. Galatians 6:13 – For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

James 2:10 – For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. The law of Life is defined by Faith and love – Gal 5:6 /1 John 3:23.

We are free bondage of men

Listen to me friends we are free bondage of men

This is the bondage of mediators. Jesus is the only mediator that we have and He is the only one who can and should come in between us and God because only through him we can access God – John 10:30 – I and my Father are one. John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, I am the true and living way: no one comes to the Father but by me.

The mediator is one and He is Christ Jesus – The man that can come in-between you and your God can and should be only the man Jesus Christ. Glory to Jesus. Amen. – 1 Timothy 2:5-6 (KJV) – For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Do not allow anyone to judge you against the truth….against the liberty that you have in Christ. What to wear, drink, eat, live, give, pray, etc. What is our guide is the Holy Spirit, not men: Rom 8:14 / Gal 5:18.

Paul stood his ground against men that wanted to steal his liberty in Christ. The same way we must guide against this freedom so that no one can be able to remove us from it through any means either religion rules, church doctrines or teaching or whatever. Otherwise, Christ died not for us we are them removed from His grace. Galatians 1:6 – I am surprised that you are being so quickly turned away from him whose word came to you in the grace of Christ, to the good news of a different sort;

Galatians 2:4 (KJV) – And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

And that because of the false brothers let in secretly, who came searching out our free condition which we have in Christ Jesus so that they might make servants of us; (BBE version)

Colossians 2:4, 8, 16, 18, 20-22 (KJV) – And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. Beware lest any man spoils you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Let no man, therefore, judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holiday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using 😉 after the commandments and doctrines of men?

Some people are bound in the name of religion to a kind of dress or uniform. Some walk without shoes, some do not eat a particular food or meat while some do not use a particular outfit or beauty like hair attachment, face beautification, earrings or things made with gold, etc. If you are doing all such in the name of pleasing God it is a sign that you are under the Law. Modesty is the message. Use everything or do all you do as you are led by the Holy Spirit.

When Paul was speaking in 1 Timothy 1:9-10 about the dressing of women please understand what He was talking about. He was not saying do not use beautiful things he was preaching modesty. And above all his message was in verse ten, see it here … “And that women may be dressed in simple clothing, with a quiet and serious air; not with twisted hair and gold or jewels or robes of great price; 10 – But clothed with good works, as is right for women who are living in the fear of God.

If you look at verse 10. That is his message. And verse 9 was an introduction to verse 10. … “not with twisted hair and gold or jewels or robes of great price” in other words. Do not let your beauty be of outward appearance but the inner one that glorifies God. You can use the apparels and gold and twisted hair but modesty is the word! Please note that you as a believer is no more bound with such again. You are free to serve and worship your Father and your God.

The sign that you are under the bondage of men

The sign that you are under the bondage of men is when you can not hear from God but follows what men say. Even if your pastor in the church or papa as you may call it speaks you must as well cross-checked it with the spirit of God in you before doing it. Acts 17:11-12, Romans 8:14.

For example, your pastor says you are to give $10,000 each that God said it to him. Anyways God will not do that because it is not in line with the gospel according to 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. That kind of giving does not allow the Spirit’s leading. If he wants you to give that because it is needed is another thing bit saying God says you should give it may not be correct according to the word of the gospel we read.

But here is my point if you check it in the spirit as you pray over it the spirit of God can tell you to give the same amount as said or even more than that. Note that until whatever you have done pleases God it will not attract his blessings – Hebrews 6:10. Now if you give and it is not pleasing to God there will be no reward. If He wants you to give 20% at the end of the month from your income but because you have been told it is 10% you have given that same amount and God is not pleased with it for that is an act of disobedience to God and obedience to your church doctrine.

God did not say you must give ten percent monthly. Check the gospel you will never see the practice of ten percent. Did Jesus or any of the disciples or the early Church practice it? Why did not they practice it? But they taught us Christianity. See this kind of people or church that is a kind of people or church that is living the life of Christ and His gospels and we should be one of their types. Acts 17:11 (KJV) – These were nobler than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Jesus has set you free it is a choice to set yourself free or hold yourself in bondage.

Another sign that you are under the bondage of men is when you take your leaders word more important than Jesus’ word. Only Jesus we are to hear and follow above all others including the prophets and leaders of the Old Testament time. This was demonstrated by God on the mountain of Transfiguration in Mathew 17:1-9. See verse 5 – While he was yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him).

A man under the law or led by the law (Old Testament) is a disciple of Moses. He is in bondage – Gal 4 3-6. But a man under the Spirit or spirit led is a disciple of Jesus and above all, he is a SON! He has liberty

We shall continue from here ………….
